This module has been designed to help foster of sense of care and concern among students for their community, environment and the world at large. This module will help develop students’ sense of personal and social responsibility. They will learn through participating in a community service experience and will have the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in real-life situations.
LEARNING OUTCOME:
-Develop relevant communication skills for collaborative work with community/society.and/or to work in a career that will make contributions to society.
-Develop a holistic awareness of the variety of problems (e.g. the environment, poverty, social discrimination) that call for action; critically analyze how such problems should be approached and how to solve them scientifically.
-Apply information management skills and strengthen their lifelong academic learning.
-Develop in themselves a strong sense of social responsibility and be able to portray leadership qualities and being able to work effectively as a team.

REFLECTION:
It all started with just a brief, somewhere in our
head echoing 'Community service
initiative'. To me it was just another assignment to submit. After attending
workshop prepared by Lost Animal Soul Shelter (LASS) with our tutor, we got the
chance to learn about how to take great care of dogs, as well as the stories
and reality behind the lives of stray dogs. Mr. Sam, one of the consultant guided us to learn the correct way of dog psychology
and correct way to communicate with dogs.
We
discussed as a group to brainstorm on how we can fulfill the requriements of
the project by persuading the public to adopt dogs instead of buying them. After discussing, we decide to move on with
several methods. First, we divided ourselves into 4 subteam: the digital team in charge of
preparing poster and postcard to educate and promote the campaign. Next, to ensure
to sustain the campaign for long terms, we created a webpage,having a team to design
online social page for people to get update news for the events. Then, the next
two team will bring the dogs which are available for adoption to Desa park and
the pet shop. My team is to bring one of the adoption dog to pet shop and
promote the advantages of adoption to public while encouraging people to adopt
dogs.
As
we start to work on it, we were enthusiastic. It was no longer just an
assignment. It started to mean something more for us and for the dog. Some of
the public also show their interest and experience about dog adoption. From
this point onwards, the project became a
meaningful milestone throughout our school life. As we saw some of the dog getting
adopted, There were unexpected result upon our expectation. The innocent soul
of the dog deeply moved us. While the meaning of the assignment became
secondary. We truly hope those dog have found a new family which will really
take care of them.
Throughout the whole project, we are
able to develop a holistic awareness of variety of problems that calls for action, then critically analyze the problem and
solution of it. Hence, we are able to develop ourselves a strong sense of
social responsibility and potray leadership qualities while working as a team.
By now, we know more about the truth of rescuing the stray dog and also know
there are actually organisation who really care about them and willing to put
in effort for it. After we saw the dog got adopted, we know it was more than
just an assignment.
