PROJECTS:
1.Mr YAU
BUNGALOW, LOT 129
During my 2 months of internship training, I started
off my first project with Mr Yau’s Bungalow which was located in Jalan Molek,
Georgetown, Penang.
One of my colleagues assigns me to amend the
elevation of building plan using Autocad. Basically, it just a kick start to
let me get know the working scheme. A lot of mistake was made and I had to seek
for help from my colleagues. Great thanks to my colleagues for solving my
problems I had made. It really let me realise that the working environment is
different from school; it’s just need to be serious.
In my last 2 weeks of internship training. I receive
another task for Mr Yau Bungalow again. For this time, I need to redesign the
gate post for the house in sketchup and draw a detail drawing for the new
design. The location of refuse chamber, letter box and tnb meter need to be
considered to be according the Uniform building by law.
2.PENANG
PORT
Penang Port is the main projects that I involved
within these 2 months. Penang port is located beside the Swettenham Pier Cruise
Terminal. It used to be a Go Down for storing the entreport goods. Then, It
slowly transforms to become an indoor carpark for terminal stuff. The building
was under the heritage protection of categories 2, which the roof and façade
cannot be change or remove. All we can design for the building is the interior
layout.
This project is very interesting. I was assigned to
assist my colleagues to design and transform the heritage to become a
commercial building. This was my first time to join the project from the design
stage, and it exactly like what we had done in studio. However, we need to
consider the Uniform by-law and the law of heritage protection.
3.ECONSAVE,
AYER ITAM
The next task given is to prepare the elevation
drawings for Econsave , Ayer Itam. The drawing is for the submission of bomba
plan. Bomba plan is the fire safety drawing that need to get approval from fire
department. In bomba plan, we need to include all fire safety that prepare and
prevent the fire accident. Our client, Econsave want to renovate their 1st
and 2nd floor. So, I have to draw out the existing building
elevation. A site visit to the site helps me to get familiar to the building.
4.KULIM CHURCH, KULIM
Kulim
Church project is the first project that I learn how to use sketchup 3d software.
I feel very thankful that my colleague gives me an opportunity to handle the
façade design for a church in Kedah. The plan had already done, but the
elevation of building was my part of work. Thanks for the tutorial from my
colleague. I was able to learn sketchup from the beginning until construct
whole building up. For façade design, apart from aesthetic value, we also need
to consider the rainwater penetration, sun light and ventilation of building.
Another interesting point of this building is the Christian cross is required
to hide inside the façade. So, it can only be seen in certain condition.
5.SUPER
CONDO, TANJUNG TOKONGHOUSE
This project really teaches me how to design in
practical way. I was assigned to design a development proposal from the land
given. First, I need to approach authorities, which is MBPP in Pulau Pinang.
Then, to start a suitable design for development in the site, we need to according
the guideline given from MBPP. A super condo was design due to the density and
the population in that area. The access to building, unit layout, amount of
carparks was designed after consideration. The land size is limited and it
increase difficulties for me to design the layout. After few times of
adjustment, finally come out a 1 unit per storey super condo design. The
feeling of satisfaction was awesome. Even though, it was not a perfect design,
but it helps me a lot in the future.
6.29
UNIT DOUBLE-STOREY TERRACE, KULIM
Approach to different supplier was the main task for
this project. To get know what type of toilet fittings, ironmongery, tiles and
waterproofing for the house. I was needed to either went to their showroom or
contact them to bring sample to the company. It teaches me how to choose the
suitable and correct type of product to fit the design of house. Deal with
supplier is important and it needed a very good social skill. A good
relationship with the supplier will definitely make our work easier.
Another task for this project is detail drawing. I
was assigned to draw the detail of toiler, door, and ceiling. Detail drawing is
important, every dimension need to be precise and accurate.
7.2-STOREYS
HOUSE, LENGKOK ARIFF
In this project, I was assigned to check the
contract document for a 2 storey house located at Lengkok Ariff. The client
wants to demolish the original house and rebuilt it to be larger and modern
design house. I had to double checking the contract to make sure the client
sign in correct pages. This was my first time to get in touch the contract
document. After reach through the contract, I realise that every project were
not easily done. It actually involve a lot of consultants and amounts of effort
put in.
8.NOVA
MULIA CONDOMINIUM
The last task i received was Nova Mulia Condominium;
I was assigned to assist my colleague to design the podium layout. The
challenging part of this task was it had 4 podiums in the condominium. So, I
need to design the space for people to do sport, chill, eat and relax. By
according the needs of residents, locate the space to fulfil their needs become
the main concern. The amount of residents, the function of space and the
maintenance were considered. I was glad to complete my last task for my
internship training. Great thanks to my colleague, the task cannot be done
without their helps.
REFLECTION:
In a nutshell, 8 weeks are really too short for us
to get into architecture world. However, within these 8 weeks of internship, I
had chances to involve in schematic design, façade design, site visit, observe
contract document and also deal with suppliers. Besides, meeting with client is
the most challenging experience during internship. As an intern, I feel very
grateful to have chances to gain different knowledge from every new task. The
teamwork is really important to make a project to be complete. Ar Tang always
reminds me as a team, ‘You’ll never walk alone’. I can really feel the bonding
among the colleagues and it influences me a lot.
Last but not least, I would like to take this
opportunity to thanks our director, Ar Tang, Ar Quah and also our friendly
colleagues for supervising me throughout these 8 weeks of internship. They are
willing to help and also sharing their knowledge to me. To let me get more
familiar how architect works in reality. I would like to thanks Mr, Cheah to
visit me during internship period.
